In Buddhist thinking ethical conduct is referred to as Sila. Sila comprises five precepts in Buddhism which are not commandments. Instead, they are guides that point us in the direction of well-being and non-harm.
When Buddha was dying, he said to his devoted monk “Ananda, after I am gone, the community of monks and nuns should look upon the practice of the precepts as their teacher.” Buddha wanted the Precepts to be our teachers.
Let’s take some time and explore our relationship with these five precepts that sensitize our understanding of non-harm and well-being.
