Humanism can be said to pre-date all religions because it is simply the attitudes and ethos that arise in all of us, naturally. We humanists do not need the supernatural or any deity to add meaning to our lives. Our task is as the ancient Greeks said, “Know Thyself”. In many ways, we UU’s are a perfect match for humanism. We try to live our lives according to principles, rather than commandments set down by an invisible deity and requiring us to have “faith” in the rightness of those commandments.
